Me Update

I was supposed to go to the Miss Louisiana state meeting this weekend, but lack of transport, lack of money and froggy’s and my health prevented me.  I hope to go to the pageant this year.

I have a friend coming down from NH next week for a visit.  He tells me that there’s a lot of trouble with tea partyers up there. Like Wisconsin, there is a move afoot to bust the unions.  I don’t know if there are any protesters in Concord. I guess I’ll find out.

On the brighter side,  I’ll be getting some maple cream, and, I hope, maple crystals.  I have about a quarter of a jar of maple crystals left from last year.

Froggy Update

It’s been eight weeks post-op, and he’s out of the Boot o’ Frog. He’ll have to undergo physical therapy so he can learn to bend the knee all over again.  Next ortho appointment is for 26 April.

Meanwhile, he continues to improve.

Success!

Froggy’s surgery was a success. His knee and ankle were repaired, and he’s home recovering.

While he was in surgery, I sat in a waiting room with a TV blaring court shows.  I’ve been through the People’s Court, Judge Mathis, Divorce Court, and various others.  I didn’t sit through Judge Judy, though.

The doctors and nurses running the waiting room kept me updated through the whole procedure.  Thank you!

The only drawback we faced was that we wished they had kept froggy overnight so they could control his pain.  He called out to me at 2AM in intense pain.  It was probably a 10 on the Wong-Baker FACES scale.   I’ve never heard him screaming as he did when he first slipped and fell.   I wished there was something I could do. I felt helpless.

He’s recovering nicely, though. He’s learning to maneuver with his giant boot, and is lying in bed watching House, M.D. because, in his words, “I’m watching people sicker than I am.”

I’m busy running the household, running errands and taking care of chores around the house.  I don’t mind.

Sorry…

…for the delay, but so much has happened in the last few weeks that I haven’t had time to blog about it.

On New Year’s Day, froggy slipped and fell. We thought at first it was a dislocated kneecap, as had happened before, but instead, x-rays revealed a shattered knee and an ankle broken in two places.

He will need surgery, which will take place tomorrow morning at University (LSU Interim) Hospital.  This will be our fourth trip to the hospital in two weeks, having previously gone for labs, consultations, X-rays and an ER visit.

Stressed out doesn’t even begin to describe what I’m feeling now. I’m tired of the cab rides, the paperwork, the wheelchairs, the narrow halls, the waiting rooms, the TVs with Oprah and “Octo-Mom” and Maury and the DNA Results of the Day.  I’ll be glad when it’s all over.

Meanwhile, in other news, you’ve probably heard all about Keith Olbermann’s departure from MSNBC.  He may be gone from TV, but he certainly isn’t silenced. He’s been tweeting, and is keeping his sharp sense of humor through it all. Right now I’m following his comments on President Obama’s State of the Union address. Brilliant as always!

Wish us luck tomorrow.

Twitter Party!

You’re cordially invited to a Miss America Twitter party!  Details forthcoming.

Twitter Party?

Since I can’t make it to Vegas for Miss America, I wondered if you, my faithful readers, would be interested in having a Twitter party.  We can discuss the pageant and the book. It would be sometime during MAO week, before final night.  What say you?

Happy 1-1-11!

Well, it’s 1-1-11 in most of the world, and I made a wish!

My partner and I spent New Year’s Eve inside and celebrated in the Brazilian time zone. Ano Novo Feliz!

Today, we’re planning to go to a New Year’s Day party at a friend’s place.  They’ll have black eyed peas and cabbage, a New Year tradition I never quite got into.  I know, it’s a southern thing and all that, but I’m more a West Coast celebrant.  I like dim sum and all sorts of Chinese things for Chinese New Year.  Happy Year of the Rabbit!
