Cool Find

While I was busy surfing Amazon, I found something interesting.  It seems that Harlequin has issued some of their books as manga (Japanese comics).  The art is drawn by Japanese artists, and the books are written by Harlequin authors.

The free books are only available on the Amazon Kindle. Barnes and Noble do have some paperback Harlequin manga, but they are charging for those books. Still, I thought it was an interesting find.

Happy 2011!

I’d like to wish all my readers a happy and prosperous 2011!

My plans are to stay in and either listen to it on radio or watch it on TV.  We’re not too fond of going out because there will be too many drunk people wandering the streets tonight. Instead, we’ll be going out New Year’s Day.

Tradition here in the south is to eat blackeyed peas and cabbage. Personally, I don’t like the stuff, instead celebrating Chinese New Year a little early with Chinese food.  2011 marks the Year of the Rabbit. Sounds good to me.

I’d rather listen to the Black Eyed Peas. They did the opening number at Miss America last year, and it was great!

I’ll miss everyone at Miss America this year, but moving has to come first.  Oh, well, maybe next year.

I have some interesting plans for the book.  I want to keep them a surprise for now, as I’m not sure how things are going to work.  Once they do–if they do, I’ll let you know what they are.

Meanwhile, if you’d like a signed bookmark, contact me. I can be found on Facebook, or by email at  Tell your friends!

Happy Boxing Day!

I was busy with my family over Christmas, so I’m writing on Boxing Day.

I’m engaging in the British tradition of watching football (soccer) matches. They were good, considering several have been postponed because of snow.

Speaking of snow, I have several friends in the Northeast who are enduring heavy snow in their areas. Better them than us. Down here, it snows about once every ten years or so.  I prefer to keep it that way.

Dreaming of a white Christmas? Hardly.

It’s official.

I won’t be going to Vegas this year.  My traveling companion has to report to Houston on 14 January.  He’ll spend a couple of days beforehand nailing down an apartment.  Before he lands in Houston, he’ll come to visit me for a few days.  That will be nice.

So I’ll probably watch Miss America alone this year from “Pageant Central in Exile”. Whether or not I’ll do the podcast remains to be seen.  I have new software, so I want to try it out.  What do you think?

Change Has Come…

I may not be going to Vegas for Miss America after all.

Last week, my traveling companion called me to tell me he had received a job offer in Houston. Honestly, I thought he was going to tell me he had  been laid off.  Anyway, they want him to start the first of the year.  So now we have to work out the logistics of a move.

This will mean, for me, more opportunities to visit.  Southwest flies between MSY (New Orleans) and HOU (Houston Hobby) seven times a day, so it’s just a hop, skip and a jump for me to fly there.  It’s  much easier than visiting him in Florida, where he is now.

I’m excited about the move, but disappointed that I may not be able to see my friends this coming year.  Whatever happens, I will be watching Miss America, whether it be from the theater at Planet Hollywood or from my cozy living room.

There’s always next year.

Passing of a Friend

I found out yesterday that a close friend of mine passed away the other night.  Ric always found time to correspond with me, and we met several years ago at Miss America. He made my time special by talking with me and introducing me to several other friends.  He was always supportive of my website designs, and was especially supportive through my health issues.

I’m broken hearted as I write this.  Who will give me a hug at Miss America this coming year?  It just won’t be the same without him.

Rest in peace,  Ric.  You are loved and will be missed.

FIFA World Cup Sites

I watched the announcement of the sites for FIFA’s 2018 and 2022 World Cups.  2018 goes to Russia, while 2022 will go to Qatar.

USA had a bid for 2022. While I would have liked to see the cup go to USA, politics played a big part in the vote. Qatar must have thrown a lot of money around.  I understand it’s deathly hot there in summer. I wonder how the players will handle it.

I hope USA will qualify for both cups.  Will they do as well as they did in the 2002 cup?
